the whiskey stains on the coffee table October 14, 2009

i reevaluate the use
of used-up rags
i used to clean
the whiskey stains
on the coffee table

i toss the tiny thong
and fancy bra
out with the shopping bag
full of toothpicks
and an empty pack of slims

most of my days
are spent typing, reading
face down sleeping
on the desk
full of coffee and stress

so i ignore
the stories rotting
right across
the apartment floor

i open and close
the apartment door
and that's the extent
of the connection
i share with the space
that i call my home
